The Gardener will assist the Horticulture staff with the maintenance of the permanent plantings and rotating displays in the outdoor gardens or glasshouses.  Job responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) watering, fertilizing, plant installation, weeding, deadheading, mulching, raking, mowing, string trimming, pruning, staking, amending soil, sowing seeds, propagating cuttings, transplanting plugs, planting topiary forms, installing exhibits, and cleaning.  The employee is also expected to greet and answer questions from garden visitors.  Gardening and plant knowledge is preferred but not required.  

Job Skills/Requirements: This position requires the ability to lift 50 lbs and tolerance of varied weather or greenhouse conditions. Must be able to work some weekends, holidays, and semester breaks. 

Hours to Work: During summer, work hours are 7:30-4:00 (6:30-3:00 starting June 1), Monday through Friday, and occasional weekends. Preference is given to people with full-time hours available.

Hourly Wage Range: $13.50 – $14.50

Job Description: The Custodial Assistant will assist with vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, restroom sanitation, cleaning windows, collecting trash from receptacles throughout the buildings, and refilling holders of disposable items, such as soap, bathroom tissue, paper towels, etc.

Job Skills / Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Ability to communicate effectively with guests and staff, follow oral and written instructions and work in a crowded public area. Applicant must have knowledge of the safe use of chemical cleaning agents and possible hazards relating to environmental sanitation. Additional responsibilities include moving furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment, delivering supplies to various areas, assisting with event set-up and tear-down including tables and chairs, sweeping sidewalks, cleaning debris from grounds and window cells and cleaning exterior windows.

Hours: Shifts are weekends, nights; some early mornings are available and the ability to work holidays is helpful. 

Hourly Pay Rate: $12.00

The Entomology assistant position at Reiman Gardens works in the butterfly lab helping to maintain butterfly cultures for release in the Christiana Reiman Butterfly Wing.  This position also assists in the care of over 20 other tropical insect/invertebrate species. Work in this position will involve maintenance of a variety of invertebrate colonies, processing and handling tropical chrysalis shipments, working in the Butterfly Wing providing resources for the butterfly’s which includes plant maintenance, and assists in the cleaning of the Butterfly Wing and lab spaces. This job provides the opportunity to work directly with all life stages throughout the rearing process with tropical and native butterflies as well as other invertebrate species. The employee will work in a USDA regulated lab and must be comfortable working with live insects. The Entomology staff at Reiman Gardens often conducts research projects in the Butterfly Wing, Lab and in nature. This position would have the opportunity to aid in that research.  The employee is also expected to greet and answer questions of garden visitors and will spend time in the Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing monitoring visitor activities and interpreting the exhibit. 

Job Skills/Requirements: This job requires a current driver’s license, the ability to lift 50 lbs. and tolerate extreme heat.  One position possibly two positions available.  This position, while hours and days of week can be flexible, primarily considers of work hours between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Starting Pay: $10.00
