Outdoor Gardener – For ISU Students
The Gardener will assist the Horticulture staff with the maintenance of the permanent plantings and rotating displays in the outdoor gardens or glasshouses. Job responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) watering, fertilizing, plant installation, weeding, deadheading, mulching, raking, mowing, string trimming, pruning, staking, amending soil, sowing seeds, propagating cuttings, transplanting plugs, planting topiary forms and cleaning. The employee is also expected to greet and answer questions from garden visitors. Gardening and plant knowledge is preferred but not required.
This position requires the ability to lift 50 lbs, tolerance of varied weather or greenhouse conditions, and a current driver’s license. Must be able to work weekends and/or holidays.
During the spring and/or fall semester, students must be able to commit to at least 3-hour shifts between 7:30am and 4pm.
Summer employment preference given to people with full-time hours available.
Hourly wage range:
$9.50 to $11.25
