A new addition is joining the iconic Elwood as part of the Gardens' Big and Small Exhibit
AMES, Iowa – After months of hints, clues, and carefully guarded suspense, Reiman Gardens has finally let the secret out: a baby garden gnome is coming to the Gardens in Summer 2026, joining the beloved giant gnome, Elwood “The World’s Largest Concrete Gnome,” as part of the upcoming Big and Small Exhibit.
The announcement caps a playful campaign in which the Gardens teased that "something BIG (yet small)" was on the way. Now visitors know exactly what — and who — to expect.
The four-foot-tall baby concrete gnome will be installed beside Elwood, the Gardens' 15-foot giant gnome, as part of the upcoming Big and Small Exhibit. Together, the pair will create an oversized gnome family moment that's sure to become a new favorite photo spot.
Elwood has long been a symbol of whimsy at Reiman Gardens, but the newest addition promises to bring an extra layer of charm to the experience — and a perfect showcase for the exhibit's playful exploration of scale.
Visitors will have a hand in welcoming the new arrival: later this year, Reiman Gardens will host an official unveiling of the baby gnome. They will also host a "Gname the Gnome" contest, inviting the public to submit name ideas.
"This new addition is going to be a lot of fun for our visitors," said Reiman Gardens Director Christine Prescott. "Elwood has become such an iconic figure here, and we can't wait for guests to meet the newest member of the gnome family."
Additional details about the Big and Small Exhibit, the naming contest, and the baby gnome's official installation will be announced in the coming months.
