Annual Theme, Exhibits, and Art

Gomphrena Bouquet Big and Small Exhibit 2026

Annual Theme

Reiman Gardens' staff uses a new theme to inspire its horticultural displays, educational programs, events, and products in the Gift Shop each year. The theme emphasizes a new dimension of the garden so guests can visit again and again to see and learn something new in the ever-changing and exhilarating displays. We are excited to announce our theme for 2026, Big and Small. For more details on the Big and Small Exhibit summer exhibit (May 30 - September 30), click here.

Current Exhibits

Each year, our outdoor garden spaces, Hughes Conservatory, and Garden Room each feature sculptures and artwork that reflect the annual theme. Over the years, Reiman Gardens has also collected many works of art integrated throughout the grounds. Find descriptions of each piece of art and its location here.

  • Fall Fractals Display in Hughes Conservatory

    Current Hughes Conservatory Display

Welcome to the Big and Small world of Fall Fractals!
    On display August 1 - October 31, 2026

From pineapple rosette to spiraling bromeliads, fall reveals patterns at many scales--fractals you can spot from leaf to landscape. A fractal is a repeating pattern formed through simple steps, and these shapes appear throughout the natural world--from ferns and Romanesco to the structured symmetry of bromeliads.

A Sierpinski triangle-inspired centerpiece highlights how nature builds big designs from small rules. This display comes to life thanks to our partnership with the Iowa State University Math Department.
